Tradition.
My dad received his undergrad degree from Purdue University. This fall Harley and I were able to visit the campus during our trip to the FALL National Convention.
This is the same drum that was at the University when my dad was a student, and it has been there since it was first presented in 1921 by Purdue Bands Director Paul Spotts Emrick.
Standing more than 10 feet high when mounted on its field carriage, the “monster” measures about eight feet in diameter and is nearly four feet wide between its two heads. The drum is still the original instrument built by Leedy Corporation of Indianapolis in 1921.
It is an amazing tradition, and I am so happy Harley and I were able to experience it!
