Today was Harley’s first day of school for her Junior Year. I have all sorts of mixed feelings about it, especially with how quickly the summer seems to have gone. I have never had an issue with my girls getting older, and I think, in part, it is because I am so excited to see what their lives develop into and how they unfold.
However, as it was with Emma, the “Junior” year and turning 17 is the only one that bothers me. Maybe it’s because it is the realization that they’ve reached the downhill slide towards graduation and college, I have no idea. I just know that, for me, it is both bittersweet and wonderful.
Harley is caring, considerate, and conscious of others’ feelings, but she is also strong, stubborn, and unwavering in standing up for herself and others. Don’t let her serious demeanor fool you, though, she loves to laugh and to make others laugh. She has become the ever-confident, beautiful young woman I have always hoped she would be. I am so proud of this girl!
