I have never been to the Pendleton Round-Up.
Shocking, I know. I grew up in Eastern Oregon, and have never taken part in that tradition.
Well, let me take that back. I have been to the Round-Up once. It was 10 years ago, I was there to see the JoDee Mesina concert, I was pregnant with Reagan, and I was the designated driver. We went home after everyone had a couple of drinks, so I don’t really count it as having “been” to the Round-Up.
This year, my friend, Crindalyn (she’s the online content editor for the EO Publishing Group), had to be in town to cover Round-Up, so we made arrangements to go together. I had to be in Hermiston earlier that day, so I met her in Pendleton that afternoon. We walked the booths at Main Street and caught some rest in the hotel before braving the downtown scene that night.
I have no idea who this guy is, and whether he is supposed to be a piece of asparagus or something else, but he was just too funny to *not* take a picture of.
Oh yeah, and this was two days after I broke my foot, so I was on crutches. By the time the night was over, I could hardly move because of all the sore muscles! I forgot just how many muscles it takes to use crutches – back, stomach, arms, etc.
Anyway, we had a great time, saw a couple of people we know, and just relaxed!
I’m thinking, though, that I might make the boot and crutches an annual tradition because I never had to fight anyone to get a place to sit! LOL
Oh, and I kind of feel sorry for this lady – I do believe she is, as they say, “DONE”! Yes, those are my crutches she is sleeping on.
