I have been looking forward to this day for a very very long time, and I think Emma’s dad and step-mom have been, too. You see, for the past 14 years, we have been making the drive between Irrigon and Heppner (a one-hour one-way trip) to transport Emma back and forth from one house to the other. The past year of Emma having her driver’s permit has been great because even though I still had to make the trips back and forth, I didn’t have to be the driver!
Today, that all changed. I am sure there will still be times when I go pick her up for the weekend, but it’s not likely. Starting today, she can drive herself independently! Woo Hoo!
I’m a little bit irritated with her, though, because nobody should have that nice of a picture on their license! 🙂
So, while I’ve been waiting anxiously for this new chapter in our lives, and I welcome it, it is still bitter-sweet. My baby girl is 16, she is independent, and, especially now, she is much less dependent on me. It’s a great day, but a sad day. I have just shortly over two years until she is out of the house and off to college. Another milestone brought so much closer by the achievement of this one.
Congratulations, Miss Em, I am so very proud of you! I miss you bunches and love you tons!
