Diggin’ In

Well, the well is done.  We were very nervous that we were going to have to drill very deep to get good water, but luckily, we were able to get water very quickly!  Our well is costing significantly less than we originally thought which is a relief because that means our budget has a little more wiggle room.  It looks pretty non-descript right now, but it looks like gold to me!

Saturday we (I should say Aaron, my dad, Tom, and Bill – my mom & I were in Portland with the girls) started excavating.  Bill ran the bulldozer for us and the other three “supervised”  🙂  The total excavation phase took three full days, but in the end it looks great!  Sunday all of us girls joined in the fun.  The girls had a blast playing on the huge sand dunes created by Bill and the bulldozer.  It was like they had a giant custom-made sandbox.

You can’t really tell in this panoramic because it’s so small, but the whole hole is HUGE!  I can’t believe how much dirt was actually moved!  Click on any of the pictures to see them larger.

One of the things that happens when you’re excavating – even when you don’t really want it to happen – is that you break or dig up something you’re not supposed to.  🙁  Here we have the three Muskateers digging out a broken irrigation line for our neighbor below us so they can repair it.  A hiccup in the process, but not a major issue because Bill was able to keep working in a different area while they worked.

I imagine the next pictures I have will be of concrete forms for the footings and foundations – EXCITING!!!  I love the progress!
