Music Abounds

Thursday was a big day at school for Reagan.  The second and third grade students at AC Houghton Elementary School were preparing for their Spring Concert – to be held that evening.  The other thing going on Thursday was a special little recital after ACH had an Artist in Residence at the school for two weeks.

The Artist in Residence, a fiddler named Kelly, worked with Reagan’s class for four days last week: May 2nd – 5th, teaching them how to play the fiddle.  The recital was held Thursday afternoon at the school.  The class played a couple of musical pieces together, and then each student played a solo.  The kids all seemed to have a great time, and they all sounded great!  How well they played after only a week of practice was amazing!

My Little Fiddler:

Thursday evening was the Spring Concert.  Reagan and her friends, Emma and Bailey, had speaking parts in their performance.  These three girls have been friends since Kindergarten, and they are inseparable.  I should modify that statement a little – Reagan and Bailey are also cousins, so they’ve spent pretty much their whole lives together.  All three of us mothers were sitting together, and as we were watching the girls’ antics (and egging them on in some cases – Stormy!), someone made the statement, “Those girls are going out with a bang!”  This is their last year at ACH, and next year as they enter fourth grade, they will move to Irrigon Elementary School.  I’m not sure who said it, but they were right on the money – they are enjoying their last days at ACH and making every moment count.

The Three Amigas!

Little Miss Reagan introducing the concert:

I am sad to see this year draw to a close for Reagan because next year she will be in the “big kid” school, and I’m not ready for that!  I know with friends like Bailey and Emma, though, she’ll be great!
