P4P Boundless Dress
P4P Boundless Dress
As with all Patterns for Pirates sewing patterns, the Boundless Dress is a downloadable PDF pattern that includes layers, printing guide, and no-trim pages that overlap, making pattern assembly quick and easy. The PDF files are available in US Letter, A4 paper, and AO copy shop sizes. The Boundless is designed for drapey, lightweight knit fabric with at least 20% stretch, and suggested fabrics include rayon spandex, modal, bamboo, and lightweight sweater knit. In addition to basic sewing supplies, hem tape and clear elastic are recommended. The pattern is drafted for sizes ranging from XXS to Plus 3X.
The Boundless Dress as tons of options! The bodice can be made with either an empire or natural waistline for the most flattering cut. In addition, sleeve options include sleeveless/tank, short sleeve, 3/4 sleeve, or long sleeve to fit any season. Dress lengths included are mini, at the knee, tea, and maxi to suit every occasion! Furthermore, the bodice can be partially or fully lined. You can also add fun, over-sized inseam pockets.
The scoop neckline is a flattering cut without showing cleavage and the scoop back gives you a fun flirty feel with all the comfort of not worrying about wearing a special bra! The higher neckline allows for more coverage, and the necklines can be mixed and matched multiple ways. The bodice and sleeves are fitted throughout. Finally, the front and back bodice have the same pattern piece and the bodice is meant to have a slight deep center front to center back. The skirt is a slimmer gathered skirt using a rectangle shape in a cut chart.
Reagan has now graduated to the adult size Patterns for Pirates and Made for Mermaids patterns (and she is THRILLED). The dress I made her is an XXS (corresponds to size 00), and it features the high neckline and scoop back. Since we are moving into Spring and Summer, I chose to make the short sleeve version, and pockets were a definite must! Reagan’s dress is made out of black double brushed poly.
Both of the dresses I made myself are the knee length, natural waist, scoop neckline and back, and they both include pockets. The black and white dress is made out of techno scuba from Mily Mae Fabrics. I love the tank option, especially with Summer coming! I cut the bodice out incorrectly the first time, and I didn’t have quite enough fabric to cut both the front and back on the fold. Instead, I cut the front bodice piece on the fold and added a center seam up the back bodice. I actually really like the way it came together.
The second dress is made out of a paisley rayon spandex, also from Mily Mae Fabrics. It is fully lined with black double brushed poly. Lining a garment isn’t always fun, but it can have some great rewards. I took my time and fully lined this dress, which also made it reversible. I love that I have two options with this one!
