To Do Tuesday April 4

Welcome to To Do Tuesday April 4!

TDTuesday

Christine at Stitch ALL The Things hosts To Do Tuesday.  TDT is a great weekly motivator to finish projects and (for me) to keep my To Do List manageable.

My list from March 21:

1.  Heal and get back to normal life/routine.

The last two weeks have been great for me.  I finally started physical therapy and spent time just relaxing and healing.  I usually have a difficult time sitting in front of the TV without something to do with my hands, but I have been so exhausted after working part days that it has been an easy habit to develop.

The floor is a convenient place to sew when you’re completely bored and ready to sew, and over the past two weeks I have sewn four items.  Two were remnants from sewing all the clothes I would need before surgery, and two were new projects.  The first two pieces were already cut out and ready to sew: a pair of Mama Bear Jogger Shorts and a Short Sleeve Reagan Raglan.  The two new projects are the Mama Claire Two-Way Dolman from Made for Mermaids.

The first is longer with a tall band, and the second is shorter with short sleeves and a short band.  For the second one I actually took the time to put my sewing machines back out and sewed at my cabinet – so much better on my back!  This pattern is drafted for a height of 5’5″, so I figured I needed to add length to compensate for my height (5’9″).  After making the first version, I decided that my torso length is short enough it doesn’t need the extra length. I made the second version without the added length and it fits much better!

I am actually adding two projects to my list now that my sewing machine is set up again, and I can handle sitting at my cabinet for an extended period of time.

2.   Finish Dress Testing and write post

I am currently testing another Pattern for Bella Sunshine Designs. It is an adorable women’s woven dress. I am testing a size zero for Reagan. My goal is to get the sewing finished and feedback submitted by the end of this week.

3.   Sew Senior Class May Day Dresses

The high school my girls attend books a May Day celebration every year including a May Court comprised of the senior class. The girls in Harley’s class have asked me to drew their dresses (there are only 10 girls). The fabric should be here by the end of the week, and once it arrives Harley and I will be cranking out dresses assembly-line style.  Of course the girls didn’t all select the same dress, so I will be making the Made for Mermaids Mama Quinn, Patterns for Pirates Timeless Tunic Dress and Sweetheart Dress, and Bella Sunshine Designs Maggie Dress.

My To Do List is finally starting to grow! Thank goodness for fast healing and feeling good!

  1. I am so happy to see you are progressing well with your healing! Love the tops, that neckline is great. I hope the dress sewing marathon goes smoothly for you! That sounds like a crazy amount of sewing, but you are an amazing seamstress… I hope we’ll get to see pictures of the finished dresses!

    1. Thank you! I get discouraged from time to time because I can’t “do” what I want sometimes, and I have to remind myself that I am still recovering from a pretty major surgery. I love the neckline of the Mama Claire! The best part about this pattern is that it is made to be worn with the crossed portion in the front or back, so it’s really versatile. Harley and I have figured out a system for making the girls dresses, and it’s going to be an assembly line. I’m pretty excited, and I will definitely get pictures!

  2. You are such an accomplished garment seamstress! Nice tops! I’m amazed that you could take on making 10 dresses to complete by the May celebration. That is so nice that your daughter is helping in sewing them.

Glad you have a good report on healing and therapy!

    1. Thank you, Sharon! The dresses they chose are very simple and easy to make, so I’m not worried about the timeline. Harley helping was one of the conditions I made before agreeing to make them. 😀
