Pre-Conceived Ideas

So, I’ve had this idea that’s been rolling around in my head for a couple of weeks.  Actually, ever since parent-teacher conferences.

At the end of the school year last year, we made some requests regarding Katelyn and Harley’s fourth-grade teachers.  We requested a specific teacher for Katelyn because he is the same teacher Aaron had in the fourth grade, and we thought that would be pretty cool.  We also requested a specific teacher for Harley.

Harley was not placed in the class we requested, and when she found out she was devastated!  Seriously.  She cried for hours.  We figured out the biggest reason for Harley being upset was more due to the fact she didn’t have all of her friends in her class rather than she didn’t want the teacher she was assigned.  She greed that she would give the first quarter a try and we would make a change then if we felt it was needed.

I have to admit, I had an idea in my head about her teacher, and I was nervous about how the school year was going to progress.  I was worried that my girl who so loves to learn would be miserable and lose her thirst for information.  I had to force myself to just “go with the flow”, as well, and see how the school year panned out.  I have to say, my opinion – no – my pre-conceived idea was completely off!  I have never been so happy to be so wrong.

Harley is thrilled with her class, and she absolutely LOVES her teacher!  I am completely convinced that Harley was placed in this class for a reason, that she is where she needs to be, and that she is going to continue to strive for greatness specifically because of the inspiration of her teacher.  I am so thankful for her.

A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.

Miss Hodgdon truly is a blessing for Harley, and I doubt she knows that her influence has now extended to her student’s mother.  I am eternally grateful for the time, effort, and love she puts into her classroom on a daily basis!
